I guess I should write about yesterday.
Let me write right away about two events of the day; it seems to me they are connected:
The trial in the Yves Rocher case has begun. The judge denied a motion to allow video recording and denied a motion for an internet livestream. Five minutes after the prosecutor began reading the indictment, the hearing was interrupted in order to shut off even the internal broadcast inside the courthouse. As the saying goes, “even the old-timers can’t remember anything like this.”
Moscow. August 14. INTERFAX.RU — Russia may withdraw from the jurisdiction of the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR). The head of state noted that the ECHR makes many of its decisions in a highly politicized way and does not perform the functions for which it was created: it does not regulate legal relations and does not protect any rights, “but simply carries out some kind of political function.” http://www.interfax.ru/russia/391379
Yes, yes—if we’re talking about politicized decisions, then of course it’s the ECHR.
