We’ve finished a large Moscow survey on sanctions and foreign travel, and we’ll be showing you the results soon—they’re quite interesting.
It was ACF’s longest survey yet—203,344 outgoing calls (meaning automated calls were placed to that many randomly generated phone numbers).
And starting Monday, we’re launching a survey in two Ukrainian regions—Kharkiv and Odesa. We’ve taken into account all the mistakes from our first attempt at conducting a survey in Ukraine, and we’ve brought in interviewers who know the language and will help if a respondent wants to do the interview in actual Ukrainian, beyond the level of "just write ‘already,’ okay? I’m writing ‘already’!" and "guys, well this was very nice, I had a good chat with you".
We had to abandon the idea of conducting a survey in Donetsk and Luhansk regions as completely unrealistic. There is technically also the possibility of surveying Kyiv, but for now we’ve decided not to rush into it.
The survey is, obviously, about what you’d expect: Kyiv, Moscow, Novorossiya, Putin, Poroshenko, who is to blame, what is to be done, how to live from here on. Banderites (a derogatory term for Ukrainian nationalists), vatniks (a derogatory term for jingoistic pro-Kremlin patriots). All of that.
We’re going to do everything in a methodologically sound and proper way—not only because we don’t want to look like a bunch of clowns constantly popping up from nowhere with "hey, we ran a survey, look at the results", but also because this is a painful subject and the responsibility is great.
People can trust survey results when it’s clear who conducted the survey, how it was done, who carried it out, and what methodology was used. We are completely open: any media representatives can contact the head of ACF’s sociology team, get full explanations, and see how everything works.
The calling process is still automated; as for pies, cookies, and vareniki (dumplings), our wonderful Galya will explain everything and tell you all about it.
