So, 24 hours have passed since we presented evidence that the family of V.P. Gorbunov, the head of the Moscow City Election Commission, owns a Croatian company through which real estate is held.

The property was not listed in the disclosure statement, and under the law Gorbunov should be removed from office for owning shares.

Let’s see what kind of response we managed to get from Gorbunov and his boss, Sobyanin:

So, is there any comment along the lines of "Good heavens, what is going on here! We’re firing him immediately"? No such comment. Is there any comment saying "We are concerned and are reviewing the documents; if the facts are confirmed, Gorbunov will be dismissed in accordance with the law"? No such comment. Is there any comment saying "We admit nothing, but we have requested the documents"? No such comment. Is there any comment saying "We need time to sort this out. We’ll respond tomorrow"? No such comment.

So what is there?

Echo of Moscow is trying for the second day to reach Gorbunov by phone, but without success:

And the most magnificent comment of all came from RBC:

In other words, don’t distract us with questions about why we lied and committed fraud before, because right now we’re busy arranging more lies and fraud.

And then silence, as if nothing is happening. The media throw up their hands, and society just shrugs.

This, by the way, is one answer to the question, "Why does Putin need the war?"

He needs it because against the backdrop of war, all this utterly scandalous trash looks insignificant. Why get outraged that Gorbunov is not resigning when cities are being shelled, planes are crashing, and soldiers sent to war are declared volunteers after their deaths.

What they expect from us is: fine then, go ahead and steal, as long as there is no war.

But we must remember that the formula is entirely different: they steal so much that that is exactly why they started the war.

I urge all journalists to keep hammering Gorbunov, Sobyanin, and the whole gang.
