I really don’t want to write one of those “things were better organized in the USSR” posts, but all these medals “for great contribution and many years of service” are pure Soviet legacy. Maybe not the worst legacy, but back then such medals were actually awarded for many years of service and a major contribution.

What exactly could be so long-standing or significant about the contribution and work of a 25-year-old idiot who had been working since March 2014—less than a year—at his daddy’s Rosneft?

Well, they could at least have awarded him for courage or heroism—those are harder to verify. But “many years of service” for a 25-year-old is just outright mockery.

At Rosneft, there are thousands of people who bust their backs on drilling rigs for years—out in the freezing winter cold and in summer surrounded by clouds of mosquitoes. Thousands who have simply worked in the industry for a long time.

But the one being awarded for many years of conscientious service is Sechin’s 25-year-old son.

Don’t tell me Putin is restoring the USSR. Even in the USSR, this could not have happened.
