Journalist Alexander Belanovsky wrote a post saying that investigators came to his home for questioning because several years ago he donated 1,000 rubles (about $10–15 at the time) to ACF (the Anti-Corruption Foundation):

First, I want to thank Alexander for making that donation.

Second, this is really happening all across the country. It has been going on for many months now (for example, since November of last year). Without exaggeration, hundreds of law enforcement officers have been assigned to the task of protecting crooks from ACF. We apologize to everyone for this inconvenience.

Third, if they come to you with this, there is no need to be afraid. Just say it plainly and briefly: yes, I donated my own money in accordance with the law, because I am against corruption.

Fourth, you can also choose not to answer and invoke Article 51 of the Constitution (“I am exercising my right under Article 51 of the Constitution and refuse to answer the question”). But in practice, if you are not a lawyer yourself and do not like arguing with investigators, it usually creates more hassle. It is easier to answer. Keep your answers short and simple. If you are unsure about something, say: “I don’t remember,” “I don’t know,” or “I find it difficult to answer.”

Fifth, we know that more than 800 people have already been questioned, and not a single one has said the lie the investigators are trying to extract: I believe my money was used for purposes other than those intended.

And finally. The best way to get back at these crooks is to go here and set up an automatic monthly donation to ACF.
