I went to see Oleg for a “short family visit”.
It was at Penal Colony No. 5 in the Oryol Region, in the settlement of Naryshkino. Incidentally, it was my first trip outside Moscow in the past three years (not counting court hearings in Kirov).
Oleg has lost weight, has a shaved head, and is wearing a black prison uniform. He’s cheerful and sends his regards to everyone. He’s still studying Spanish and wants to enroll in some kind of distance-learning program.
The administration is polite, all very proper and civilized, and everything is recorded on video.
