Last Wednesday, we published instructions on how, as part of the #Twenty campaign, a bill on illicit enrichment can be introduced to the State Duma through a regional parliament, and explained how this is already being done in St. Petersburg, Astrakhan, and Kirov. In just a few days, supporters from 19 regions responded to our call. In the Vladimir, Yaroslavl, Samara, and Smolensk regions, as well as in Tatarstan, Buryatia, Bashkortostan, Perm Krai, Altai Krai, and the Moscow Region, activists have already identified likely allied deputies to contact and are writing them letters. In the Irkutsk, Chelyabinsk, Novosibirsk, Kemerovo, Saratov, and Orenburg regions, as well as in Krasnodar Krai and Stavropol Krai, activists are still choosing which deputy to target so they can hit them with all of our arguments in support of #20.
From the Nenets Autonomous Okrug, regional parliament deputy Maksim Malyshev wrote to us right away: “I support Article 20 of the UN Convention against Corruption and am ready to help advance this bill in the Assembly of Deputies of the Nenets Autonomous Okrug.”
So if you’re thinking, I’d like to get involved in my region, but I feel a little awkward and don’t want to stand out like a sore thumb, don’t worry—you definitely won’t be alone. Hundreds of people across the country are doing the same work.
We will provide any methodological and informational support you need. Most likely, you’ll be able to find a deputy in your own region who is ready to introduce #Twenty as well—after all, as a reminder, our proposals are supported by 87% of the population, and deputies, by the nature of their job, have to get elected. A popular and useful bill is never a bad thing for them.
