Dissernet has stripped Vladimir Platonov of his doctoral degree — the longtime head of the Moscow City Duma (he was only just re-elected), the leading United Russia figure in Moscow, and so on and so forth.

Well, what do you mean, "stripped"? Formally, Platonov gave it up himself — he writes about it here on Facebook. But if he hadn’t, then, as Sergei Parkhomenko writes (go read it!), it would have happened in a very uncomfortable way.

Congratulations to the free online community Dissernet on an important victory in its noble struggle to defend Russian science and education.

I hope Platonov himself (though I don’t feel sorry for him at all — he’s a United Russia politician, he blocked our bills, and so on) will serve as a good example to other powerful plagiarists: he gave up his doctorate himself instead of squealing and filing lawsuits, as many do. And look — he’s alive and well and still a deputy, even if he’s no longer a Doctor of Sciences.
