It’s unbelievably simple. Today, another initiative by a United Russia deputy caused quite a stir: he proposed "labeling the products of companies that had economic ties with the Third Reich":
So, purely out of curiosity, I decided to look at the asset declaration of this deputy, who so passionately hates the "corrupting Western companies," the German auto industry, and BMW in particular.
But how?! How is that even possible?
The guy is drafting a bill to make Russians give up their Nazi BMWs and Mercedeses while openly owning a BMW and a Mercedes himself—as stated in his publicly available declaration!
It’s not even clear whether this is an extreme degree of hypocrisy or an extreme degree of contempt for voters (those idiots would never think to ask what car I drive).
Not to mention that a deputy who bought a Mercedes ML with a 6.3-liter sport engine, while having a family annual income of 4.3 million rubles (less than the cost of that Mercedes), ought to keep quiet about Western companies supposedly "encouraging officials to take bribes."
In short, it’s like in an old joke. The bill is a good one: only instead of labeling, they should be branded; not companies, but deputies; and not for ties to the Third Reich, but for political prostitution.
