Honestly, Peskov would have been better off marrying Kandelaki. They would have made a perfect pair of corrupt operators pulling off shady deals, and fighting people like that is a just cause for any decent person. But Navka is not a government official, has no desire to become one, stays out of politics, and after all, she is an Olympic champion.
Nevertheless, since she is now the wife of a state official, I am forced to answer the million questions we have received about whether Tatyana Navka could face any tax consequences in the United States because her fiancé decided to cover up his illicit enrichment with Navka’s income.
Given:
State official Peskov owns a watch worth 37 million rubles.
After being caught, state official Peskov said that the watch had been given to him by his fiancée, Tatyana Navka, on their wedding day, and that she supposedly had the necessary income to afford it.
Peskov is lying, since he had owned the watch for at least several months before the wedding.
Tatyana Navka is (or was) a U.S. citizen or tax resident.
Let’s break it down:
Summary:
By lying that the expensive watch was a gift from Tatyana Navka, Dmitry Peskov has seriously set up his fiancée. If we—or someone else—use this U.S. tax service, Navka will most likely face problems.
Nevertheless, we believe it would be unfair to immediately file a complaint against the bride, because we are 100% certain that she did not give him a 37-million-ruble watch, she does not have income on that scale, and she has ended up caught between two fires: on one side, a husband trying to cover his own embarrassment with her championship status; on the other, the U.S. tax authorities, who could not care less who is a champion and who is Putin’s press secretary.
The Anti-Corruption Foundation calls on Dmitry Peskov to stop misleading everyone and hiding behind his wife’s skirt, exposing her to fines and possible jail time. We are waiting for a clear explanation of the source of the funds used to purchase the entire discovered collection of expensive watches.
And we urge all media outlets not to let up on Peskov and to get him to answer the public’s legitimate questions.
