In fact, in the settlement of Susanino, people understand perfectly well what is going on.

The complete collapse of everything is far more visible from there than it is from Moscow.

For example, people have been living with roads like these throughout the entire so-called "era of stability":

Here, take a look at this short video diary. At a meeting in Sharya (328 km from Kostroma), a woman tells Yashin: we used to have a normal town, and now it’s a dying one; we only have three institutions left—the police, the bailiffs, and the tax office.

It is an absolutely precise description of the current model of state capitalism—no Moscow political analyst could put it better.

The problem is that people in Sharya and Susanino do not see any alternative way to vote. For them, every election over the past 15 years has meant choosing between three options: United Russia, the Communist Party, and the LDPR. There may be other parties on the ballot, but they register as white noise.

No one else is on television, so voting for anyone else is not even considered. The usual logic kicks in: "They’re all tiresome and no good, but there’s nobody else."

Right now, there is one best way to show people that there really are other options, that they are real people, and that they say and do the right things: go there—to Sharya, Kostroma, Susanino. Spend ten days campaigning and going door to door with other volunteers.

It’s very simple: either you come, talk to a grandmother or grandfather, and after that they will never vote for Putin or United Russia again; or you do not come, and they will keep voting for United Russia until you do come and speak with them.
