The news about Oleg is not good. As you may remember, he was again placed in a punishment cell yesterday. As usual there, they do not allow him books, and they do not give him his contact lenses (he is nearsighted). All of this is completely illegal, but no one is surprised anymore. Worse still, it has emerged that Oleg has already been declared a “persistent violator of prison rules” and transferred to the so-called “strict conditions of detention.” After he gets out of the punishment cell, he will be placed under this strict regime.

Roughly speaking, you are in your cell all the time (ordinary prisoners move between the living quarters and the work area, and can go around the prison compound, to the cafeteria, the library, and so on), with one long visit per year (instead of four under the regular regime), one package every six months, and no phone calls allowed.

Oleg said that after a recording of his conversation was played at a rally, endless searches and “hunts for prohibited items” began. In the end, they found some items they could nitpick over and confiscated them, but did not even take any explanation from him. Apparently, they were coordinating it with Moscow. As soon as they got approval, they told him, “You shouldn’t have rocked the boat,” and sent him to the punishment cell.

They have not even given his lawyer the documents on the basis of which he was sent to the punishment cell and transferred to the strict regime. Supposedly, “they are in the punishment cell.” As if it were on the Moon and no one could produce them for his lawyer, as they are required to do. It is obvious why they are doing this: to delay the appeal.

I view what is happening as abuse of Oleg, intended to put pressure on our family and on me personally, in order to obstruct my work and my investigations in particular.

What kind of “persistent violator of prison rules” is he supposed to be? It is absurd even to say such a thing.

It is not enough that they threw a man in prison without any guilt or crime; even there, in prison, they are stripping him of the bare minimum of rights he is entitled to, demonstratively showing: “We can do whatever we want anyway.”

Well, if you want to make a show of it, you Kremlin bastards, then do it to me. Why take it out on him?
