Last week, a screening of the film From Russia with Cash was successfully held in the British Parliament. The film came out several months ago and caused a major stir in Britain, prompting the first changes to UK law: in order to combat money laundering and the export of corruption, the UK will begin disclosing the owners of London property hidden behind offshore companies.
Why was the film so important? It is built around hidden-camera footage, and British society was mildly shocked to learn just how easily luxury real estate in London could be bought by any damned crooks, without even bothering to hide that their money came from criminal sources.
Hardly anyone in Russia has seen the film, because its creators prohibit online distribution. However, they made an exception for the Anti-Corruption Foundation (ACF) and gave us exclusive rights to screen it in Russia. It is no coincidence that one of the film’s central figures is our longtime friend and ally, ACF Supervisory Board member Roman Borisovich.
Watch it — it’s very interesting. (Russian subtitles are available; turn them on by clicking the CC button in the lower-right corner of the screen.)
And while we’re at it, let us introduce our new ACF website. It brings together all of our investigations (including those that were not published on navalny.com); you can also read our news or look at the kind faces of our staff.
And don’t forget to send us money.
