The most quoted interview of the day is, of course, the remarks by Safonov, the head of Rostourism (Russia’s federal tourism agency):
You can denounce Safonov for this nonsense — quite rightly — but our Lyubov Sobol did something absolutely brilliant (bravo, Lyuba).
She simply found and published Safonov’s asset declaration.
The guy has a villa in the Seychelles, and he’s lecturing us about healthy peasant children and how seaside vacations are just a stereotype.
The full declaration, with all the Mercedeses and Bentleys, is here: http://www.russiatourism.ru/data/File/2015/svedeniya_dohody_rashody_visshei_gruppi_dpljnostey_2014_god.pdf
A shout-out to those who keep writing that my description of the Russian authorities as “the rule of the worst” is an exaggeration.
This is for them.
And this is for us.
Enjoy your vacations, Russians.
