It was interesting to watch how Kadyrov himself and his defenders in the Kremlin frantically tried to turn the presentation of Yashin’s report into snickering and cheap jokes:
- I’ll publish everything myself before Yashin does, hee-hee.
- Yashin is neither he nor she, but an it, huh-huh-huh.
- we’ll throw a wad of dollars at him, blargh-blargh.
That was exactly why it was even more obvious how terribly nervous and agitated they all were about the publication.
It became one of the most heavily covered media events of the year, so I won’t go into the presentation itself—you already know all about it.
I’ll only say that the report is excellent, written in a clear and accessible way—and that may be the main reason for such fierce resistance. The spread of a document like this among ordinary people (and Yashin plans to print and distribute a large run) will be a major problem for the authorities; no amount of propaganda can drown out a body of facts like this.
