It's amusing that the only person from Russia to make The Guardian's list of "the most influential young people in the world" was Putin's daughter, Katerina Tikhonova.

Not because Tikhonova is somehow worse than the others or doesn't measure up—the list is full of some pretty hellish characters—but because the irony is that the most powerful young person in Russia is completely unknown to Russian citizens.

Officially, there is no such person as Katerina Tikhonova, Putin's daughter. To this day, only the bravest media outlets dare mention her existence, and as for her financial dealings and billionaire son-in-law Kirill Shamalov, only a tiny handful do.

So I don't think more than 5% of Russian citizens have even heard that name.

Probably even the American on the list—Kim Kardashian—is better known in Russia.

So it turns out we're hiding the sources of Russia's global power from our own citizens!
