Volkov’s funny prediction keeps coming true.
Yesterday, the “Public” “Chamber” said it was necessary to inspect Novaya Gazeta, and today an important-looking police officer came to our office carrying this demand, signed no less than by the Deputy Prosecutor of Moscow.
In general, it makes sense: yesterday the Prosecutor’s Office said it would examine the “Panama Papers”, but you need documents to examine them. And there are no documents. So now they need to go looking for them at Novaya and the ACF.
As I understand it, the order was given to obtain all of ACF’s documents, and as a pretext they used a complaint from some clownish United Russia members from Dagestan, who filed a report against us because the head of ACF’s sociology department published her article (about sociology) in The Washington Post.
The Dagestani United Russia members don’t know those foreign letters, so they couldn’t read the article, but immediately declared that such a publication clearly proves ACF is funded from abroad.
I hasten to disappoint both the Prosecutor’s Office and the Dagestani United Russia members: ACF’s only source of funding is donations from Russian citizens. Several thousand people send us their money, and all of it is directly reflected in our accounting records.
The Foundation’s latest report on its finances and work is available here, and a new one will be published in the next few days.
We have not received any grants, we are not receiving any now, and we do not need them as long as there are people willing to support us financially.
By the way, the Prosecutor’s Office demand is a great reason to go here and upset the Dagestani United Russia members, the prosecutors, the Tsapok gang, Putin, Roldugin, and the whole bunch of them.
