Remember how everyone was outraged when the government announced it would classify officials’ real estate records in the state databases of Rosreestr (Russia’s official real estate registry)?

Well, public outrage worked: they decided not to amend the law. Instead, all information about the property of these “public servants”... was simply made secret without any legal amendments at all.

This is completely illegal; it cannot be allowed to happen. But the fact that Rosreestr is doing exactly that is beyond dispute.

We caught officials hiding data on Shoigu and Rogozin, and we are currently suing over it. Now they have gone even further: they are concealing not only ministers in the databases, but also the relatives of these “public servants.” Here, Georgy Alburov writes about the apartment of Putin’s son-in-law Kirill Shamalov and proves with documents that his records, too, were illegally removed from Rosreestr.

They have set things up very nicely for themselves. They channel money from the National Wealth Fund to their families, turning sons-in-law, daughters, and sons into Russia’s youngest billionaires, and then they go one step further and impose secrecy on information about their property.

So the little people won’t bother them.

The ACF (Anti-Corruption Foundation) will file a lawsuit over this as well.
