So, they’ve reappointed our dear falcon. The whole big family will be thrilled, especially LSDUZ and YFYaU9. They’ll be drinking tonight. But amid the cheerful toasts, there will be a somber one too—they’ll remember Seryoga Tsapok, their faithful business partner.
I really liked the atmosphere surrounding the reappointment. What could capture it better than the unanimous vote of the “senators” and those police detention buses outside their building.
The conversation in the Kremlin was obviously something like this:
- Today Chaika is being reappointed prosecutor general, so we need to order in more police and bring up the detention vans.
- Why?
- What do you mean, why? People are going to come protest.
Do you understand? It’s such an ordinary part of life: the authorities know perfectly well what this new old prosecutor is. They know there will be protests. So they prepare for it as a matter of routine... but not by looking for a better candidate—instead by banning protest actions (“Fun Starts” sports events are being held) and detaining anyone who appears on the steps of the Federation Council, even for a one-person picket.
At the session today, Chaika himself was once again babbling his lies about foreign masterminds. As you know, we are not allowed to sue him over his obvious falsehoods. They simply refuse to accept the filings.
Chaika’s reappointment dragged on for an unprecedentedly long time. The evidence that he turned the Prosecutor General’s Office into an organized criminal group is so overwhelming that, apparently, even within this thieving government many were insisting that this was too much.
The prevailing view was: nothing is too much. Loyalty is an absolute value, and even business ties to the murderers of 13 people and to rapists cannot tarnish a loyal man. On the contrary, it binds him even more tightly to his master.
So: reappoint the prosecutor general. Attack the authors of the investigation publicly (a criminal case has still not been opened). Carry out demonstrative searches at the home of the main troublemaker. Round up everyone who comes to protest.
Well then, let’s treat this reappointment as yet another sign of what must be done. It is the duty of any decent person to stand against this regime of crooks, thieves, and murderers and to fight it. In word and in deed. Vote against it. Protest against it.
Do everything that your personal courage and circumstances allow.
We have collected here much of what the ACF (Anti-Corruption Foundation) has done to ensure that Chaika and their entire mafia end up in the dock. We are continuing this work and will continue it no matter what.
We would be grateful for your support in any form. Today’s link of the day:
