My valiant inspectors from the FSIN (Russia’s Federal Penitentiary Service) have once again received some kind of instructions “from above” (they say those words with a look of sheer terror), and they are demanding that my suspended sentence be converted into a real prison term.
And really, how could they not demand that I be locked up? The offenses committed by Navalny, a man on a suspended sentence, are grave and dangerous.
I went on vacation to Karelia (a region in northwestern Russia), so on the day I was supposed to check in (July 7), a lawyer came to my inspector’s office with a letter saying that I was on vacation in Karelia and therefore could report on July 11 instead—which is exactly what happened. What a scandal!
It also lists three more shocking incidents (over the course of 2.5 years) when I checked in a day or two late after providing documentation that I was on vacation.
The full text of the petition—which also serves as a detailed biography of my life over the past couple of years—can be found here.
As I understand it, the court hearing will be in early August.
