This music will play forever. For five years now, there hasn’t been a stretch of time when I haven’t carried the proud title of “suspect,” “accused,” or “defendant.”

So, soon I’ll be going from accused to defendant once again. The shocking case of “slandering an honest police officer who bought a million-dollar apartment in his mother’s name” has been investigated (whatever that means) and will soon be sent to court.

I’ve been officially notified, and now I have the opportunity to look through the “case materials.”

So far, two interesting things.

For the first time in my long and colorful criminal history, I’ve seen a genuinely amusing document listing the investigative theories. The first contains the absolutely brilliant wording: “the crime was committed by A. A. Navalny by virtue of his occupation.”

The head of inquiry at the Maryino district police department essentially put it very accurately: from the point of view of the current authorities, the occupation of A. A. Navalny and his colleagues is itself criminal.

Rubbing society’s nose in a Porsche bought by a police major—that’s a serious crime.

As was obvious from the very beginning, not a single item seized during the latest search of my apartment proved useful to the case. Not only was nothing recognized as evidence, they didn’t even order any forensic examination.

I wrote from the start: this case was commissioned by Prosecutor General Chaika, payback for our investigation into the criminal business dealings of his family and deputies. The guys just needed an excuse to dig through phones, computers, and family photos and videos looking for something juicy.

Back to court again soon.
