I missed it, but it turns out Deputy Zheleznyak commented on our video about the lawmaker’s family, who live in London and love Putin from there.

He wrote a huge wall of text on Facebook. Like pretty much any other United Russia party member, he claims it’s a hit job against him. But there are two more very interesting points:

Zheleznyak very amusingly writes that his daughter married not an Englishman but a Scotsman, and that “the Scots have always held a position different from official London.” Great argument, sure.

The little deputy insists that his daughter was fired from the BBC precisely because she is the daughter of this irreconcilable fighter for the happiness of Putin’s elite. It would be very interesting to hear the BBC’s comment on this. After all, a member of the Russian parliament and a deputy from the ruling party is accusing the broadcaster of a politically motivated dismissal.

All in all, it’s an entertaining response—give it a read. A textbook example: a hypocritical crook gets cornered and starts wriggling, suddenly singing about the friendship of nations and how there are many good people in the U.S. and the UK who respect the president of Russia.
