On June 12, anti-corruption rallies took place in 145 cities across Russia. The geography of the protests doubled compared with the demonstrations on March 26. In most cities, the rallies were officially authorized, but in Moscow and St. Petersburg, people took to the streets for unauthorized protests.

Alexei Navalny was detained on June 12 as he was leaving his apartment building entrance and was sentenced to 25 days of administrative arrest for “organizing an unauthorized protest.”

Yesterday, Leonid Volkov, who spent June 12 in the studio hosting a live broadcast about rallies across the country, was also placed under administrative arrest for 5 days. He is accused of “organizing a rally through the YouTube video platform.”
