For all these 18 years, Putin himself and his lackeys have systematically destroyed our political rights, gutted local self-government, stripped the regions of their powers, and shut down media outlets under the slogan: “THIS IS TO PREVENT THE BREAKUP OF RUSSIA.”
So that everything would be uniform, supposedly, and governors would not meddle where they do not belong, provoking separatism. So that our foreign and defense policy would be monolithic, like a marble column in Putin’s palace near Gelendzhik.
So what?
One of the governors of a federal subject of the Russian Federation
Organized an unauthorized rally in Moscow under slogans that directly contradict the position of the Foreign Ministry and the Kremlin, which have been blocking a UN resolution on Myanmar for years. They have also issued statements openly supporting the persecution of the Rohingya Muslims, calling it an “anti-terrorist operation.”
Organized a huge rally on the same issue in Grozny, where people were ordered to attend by official quota.
He released a video address saying that he opposes Russia’s position (see the video above).
And then we see the news agency headlines:
And how are we supposed to interpret this now? We understand perfectly well that official Russia will not change its position on Myanmar. That would mean changing its entire strategy in Southeast Asia and creating problems with China, which is also blocking resolutions on Myanmar.
As Vladimir Milov rightly points out, our state corporations are actively courting the government of Myanmar.
In other words, demanding an immediate end to the massacre of Muslims is absolutely right. Stopping the veto of the UN Security Council decision is absolutely right. Russia should not support this madness, when “volunteers” simply burn villages and kill people by the hundreds and thousands.
But the Kremlin and the Foreign Ministry will not do that. And what happens then?
Will Kadyrov call them shaitans (devils) and leave the Russian Federation?
Putin and the Kremlin have created so many preconditions for separatism that they will be the main ones responsible for the country’s breakup, if it happens.
