So far, all I know about how the October 7 protests went is what they’re reporting on the radio.
But even so, one thing is clear to me: only you are moving the country forward — those who took to the streets yesterday and those who participated in any other way. All hope rests with you.
At a time when public politics in the country has been replaced by anonymous Telegram channels, when cowardice and self-censorship have become signs of normality and the system itself, who else can Russia rely on as it slides into backwardness and obscurantism?
Only on you — those who call white white and black black, and who are not prepared to give up your right to an opinion.
Anything alive and honest that can emerge in Russian politics — and it will emerge, and then it will surely prevail — will come only from your ranks. I’m glad to stand with you.
In Moscow, where there have been no arrests.
And in St. Petersburg, where there have been arrests.
And in Yakutsk, where Putin’s thugs in uniform beat a man.
By the way, we have once again seen that the only source and cause of violence is the authorities and the police — not the protesters under any circumstances. In the cities where the police did not interfere with anyone and simply maintained order, everything went perfectly.
Special thanks to the municipal assemblies of the Filyovsky Park and Tverskoy districts in Moscow (there may have been others; I know about these two) for their statements supporting people’s right to gather peacefully with their own slogans.
It is simply a joy — for the first time in 20 years — to see elected deputies doing what is most needed from them: speaking on behalf of the people (!!!) who elected them and saying, we should not live by these rules; we should do things this way instead. That is what representative democracy is. That is how it is supposed to work. We are awakening it.
No matter the pressure, we will keep working and achieve our goals. Truth is on our side.
