This is really great. I even decided to write a post about it. As you remember, we are not being granted approval for rallies, so now we are searching all across Russia for venues that are privately owned.

And in Izhevsk, something absolutely amazing in its beauty and simplicity has happened.

One person went to the residents of his apartment building and said: why don’t we let Navalny use the area around our building for a couple of hours for a meeting? It belongs to us, after all—it is jointly owned common property of all the residents. We can sign a contract, take payment, and let him hold it.

“Okay,” the residents said, “put it to a vote.” And then they voted: 100% in favor.

So this Saturday in Izhevsk, I’m holding a meeting on private property, in a residential courtyard. By decision of the building’s residents. Isn’t that wonderful? This is what you call “inviolable property rights,” and this is what you call “local self-government.”

What’s more, last night volunteers cleaned up the area around the building to prepare the site.

The residents are happy, and it works well for us too. The rental cost is 8,000 rubles (about $135 at the time). (Send us a little to help cover it).

We are continuing to look for similar venues and spaces, as well as similarly brave and proactive people. Join us—we are running a real election campaign.
