As you can imagine, I couldn’t just ignore the astonishing sentence handed down to former senator from Chechnya Umar Dzhabrailov.
Getting high on drugs and firing shots into a hotel ceiling, then walking away with a 500,000-ruble fine — that’s really something. I deal with the court system all the time, and I’ve never seen that kind of leniency.
It seemed important to me to compare Dzhabrailov’s sentence with the sentences our courts hand down to ordinary people.
