Kaliningrad is wonderful. I even got shown around the city here—by a couple thousand tour guides.
Kaliningrad Region is a very special place for any politician coming to hold a mass meeting with voters. It has a serious tradition of public protest here. At one point, Governor Boos was removed because people took to the streets. During the Putin era alone, the region has seen as many as five governors replaced.
We had to live up to that. Our campaign headquarters did not let us down and organized everything perfectly. Even though the authorities pressured a private venue in the very center of the city to cancel on us at the last minute, we moved in an orderly way to Yuzhny Park and held an absolutely fantastic rally there.
At the very least, I’m leaving here completely inspired, and it’s a great way to end the week.
As an admirer of Kant, I couldn’t resist: walking past the Cathedral, where his tomb is, I started chanting: Im-man-u-el!
To be honest, no one joined in, and it was a flop.
But that was the only failure today. Everything else was bound to go well with such a wonderful crowd.
Thank you for your support, Kaliningrad.
