The World Cup in Russia has come to an end. It was a wonderful month, and for the first time in many years our national team delivered a strong result, finishing among the eight best teams in the world.
But how can we make sure that achievements like this no longer seem miraculous, but become the norm?
All sporting success begins with a system of youth sports schools. In our country, this is a major problem. Even now, we have football academies that systematically develop new players for Premier League clubs, but there are clearly far too few of them. That is why our team at the recent World Cup was one of the oldest. Put simply, we do not have enough young footballers.
What needs to be done for more and more new players, coaches, and football schools to emerge? It is very simple: sport must become truly widespread and accessible.
Ilya Pakhomov explains where to find the money to fund youth sports and what other problems this could help solve.
