Thank you, Ilya Yashin, for bringing attention to this issue.
Honestly, I’m ready to vote on the spot for anyone who raises the issue of “de-icing chemicals.” Every winter, Sobyanin turns Moscow’s streets into a toxic hellscape.
It’s simply unbearable. Shoes get ruined, pets’ paws break out in sores, and plants die. This chemical crap eats away at everything around it. It does absolutely nothing for safety.
No one does this anywhere else. Certainly not on this scale.
We need organized political resistance to the use of these chemicals in winter. This is one of the city’s most important problems.
I’m very glad Yashin made such a detailed, substantive video:

Please help share it.
And I can’t help noting that we at ACF (the Anti-Corruption Foundation) know very well why Sobyanin’s mayor’s office buys these chemicals in unimaginable quantities—and more with each passing year.
This was thoroughly investigated by Lyubov Sobol. She spent a great deal of time fighting against these chemicals. The answer is simple: corruption. Officials steal hundreds of millions through procurement of this stuff.
Yashin covers this issue too—good for him.
