That’s it. Starting today, election commissions can no longer remove candidates from the ballot. Parties can no longer withdraw them. And candidates themselves can step down only in cases of serious illness (I hope no one arranges that for them).
The Smart Voting system is now operating at full capacity. If there is an election in your city and it is at a level covered by Smart Voting, enter your address and you will get the name of the recommended candidate.
Despite the colossal mess in the address databases, we have managed to get Smart Voting to recognize more than 90% of addresses.
A huge amount of work has been done: Smart Voting now covers 52 election campaigns and 775 electoral districts.
To make the system easier for you to use, we created bots on Facebook, Telegram, and Viber.
The website is up and running—go check it out. Let me remind you that the most reliable method is registration.
Many people are interested in the overall picture in Moscow, so to save you from having to enter 45 addresses in 45 districts, I am publishing the full list of Moscow candidates below.
It was compiled on the basis of extensive and careful analytical work, election results in Moscow from previous years, and recommendations from independent candidates who were barred from running in the districts where they had campaigned. The last point is important. It was not always an easy choice, but the endorsement of the frontrunner who had been removed from the race was decisive.
Obviously, the candidates not endorsed by Smart Voting—and, as you understand, there are 3 or 4 of them in each of the 45 districts—are upset. Some of them are decent people, and they will loudly complain and produce their own polling showing that they are, without fail, in the lead.
There is nothing to be done about that: an election is an election, and you can vote for only one person.
However, I guarantee that this is a list of the strongest candidates in each district. They are the ones with the best chance of defeating the candidates of United Russia. To vote against Smart Voting and choose some other option in this election is simply to support a United Russia candidate.
