No, really—any investigation usually drains you emotionally, because you have to write about brazen thieves. You work on it, you worry, and you get furious that people like this are running the country and getting away with it.
But this time there was an extra killer factor. We had to LISTEN TO THE JOKES of these brazen thieves. Because humor—or rather “humor”—is one of their key mechanisms of corruption.
We had to sit through this nightmare for hours and cut out every utterance of “The Boss” to keep you entertained—otherwise, this investigation based on accounting documents would have been too boring to watch. We hope you like it:
As with “Dimon” and “Chaika”, we decided not to limit ourselves to just the video version of the investigation, but to make a longread as well. Partly because we wanted, in a sense, to erect a monument to the astonishing agility of our media parasites. And partly because, in the course of working on the investigation, many new threads and topics emerged that simply wouldn’t fit into the film.
