The most important point is right there in the title of this post. We still put “quarantine” in quotation marks because there is no actual quarantine.
The entire internet is full of bewildered, frightened men and women being dragged off by the police for leaving their homes. But officially, there is neither a state of emergency, nor an emergency situation, nor any quarantine.
Accordingly, there is no support for citizens or the economy, either.
What we do have, however, are graphs of the growth in case numbers, and they show clearly and unequivocally that Russia is handling the epidemic very, very badly.
Far worse than European countries. Among major developed nations, only the United States looks as bad as Russia, but given that all kinds of ties between the U.S. and Europe, and between the U.S. and China, are an order of magnitude greater than Russia’s ties with Europe or China, our country’s problems still look extraordinary. Their causes are political.
And those causes have a first and last name.
