On September 9, 2018, protests against raising the retirement age took place across Russia, called by Alexei Navalny to coincide with the nationwide voting day. The rallies were part of Alexei’s large campaign against the pension reform. Navalny himself had been arrested even before the protest. Despite pressure, detentions, and preemptive arrests of organizers in the regions, people still took to the streets — pension reform had become one of the most painful issues of that year.
