On March 1, 2015, Moscow hosted a memorial mourning march for Boris Nemtsov, who was killed near the Kremlin on the night of February 27–28. Before the murder, the event had been planned by its organizers, including Alexei Navalny, as the opposition march “Spring,” but after Nemtsov’s death, the format of the demonstration was changed. Alexei Navalny himself was under arrest in a special detention center during the march for handing out campaign leaflets inviting people to attend. This gallery captures one of the most difficult moments for the Russian opposition.
