Chelyabinsk became the twentieth city on Alexei Navalny’s 2017 autumn campaign tour. The meeting took place amid discussions of environmental problems in the region and reports of elevated ruthenium levels, making the issue of quality of life in the city especially acute. The tour was part of Navalny’s presidential campaign: after opening regional campaign offices, he began holding large meetings with voters across Russia.
