Pskov became the twenty-second city on Alexei Navalny’s 2017 autumn campaign tour. Getting there was especially difficult: after Saratov, Navalny flew to Moscow at night, then to St. Petersburg in the morning, and from there traveled by car to Pskov. Routes like this were largely the result of how the authorities approved the events (Saratov — Pskov — Samara), turning the journey between cities into a trial of its own. The tour was part of Navalny’s presidential campaign: after opening regional campaign offices, he began holding large meetings with voters across Russia.
