In the fall of 2017, Alexei Navalny launched a major campaign tour across Russia as part of his presidential bid. He traveled from city to city, held meetings with voters, presented his platform, and answered people’s questions despite repeated refusals by the authorities to approve events, detentions, and pressure on campaign offices. The tour became an important part of the campaign: after opening regional offices, the team moved on to large public gatherings. At that moment, Navalny’s politics was literally taking place in public squares—in different cities, before thousands of people, without federal television coverage or administrative backing.
