Yekaterinburg was one of the first cities where Alexei Navalny opened a regional headquarters for his presidential campaign. It was an important location for the campaign: a major city, strong local politics, an engaged audience, and an opportunity to speak to people directly rather than through federal television channels. The opening itself was not entirely calm either: before the event, activists from NOD (the National Liberation Movement) showed up outside the headquarters and tried to stage a provocation.
