Who do you have to be to profit from medical masks right now, during the coronavirus epidemic? The answer is simple: a United Russia official (from Russia’s ruling party). ⠀ A couple of days ago, Moscow City Hall proudly announced that it had purchased medical masks worth 200 million rubles (about $2.7 million at the time). We checked this procurement deal (made without a tender because of the state of emergency) and we say this: at least half of that 200 million was stolen. ⠀ A children’s medical mask that another buyer purchased for 3 rubles 70 kopecks, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin bought for 9 rubles 45 kopecks. Adult masks cost 1 ruble 34 kopecks, but Sobyanin bought them for 7 rubles 15 kopecks—five times more expensive. ⠀ Watch the video about this on my YouTube channel.
