A funny thing happened to me. I’ll tell it in seven slides of this carousel. Swipe through. 2. Yesterday, on my Thursday livestream, I was outraged by the words of a senior official. Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova @mzakharovamid believes that air travel and vacations abroad are privileges for the rich. And if you have loans, a modest salary, or clothes that aren’t nice enough, then you’re supposed to choose a simpler kind of vacation. People like that shouldn’t be allowed on planes. 3. Zakharova watched my show. She didn’t like what I said and challenged me to a debate, confidently writing that I would “back out.” Everyone was surprised. 4. I was surprised too, but I immediately agreed to debate in any format. 5. A moderator was chosen: journalist Alexei Pivovarov. He spoke with Zakharova, agreed on the format, and that same night announced the time of the debate. 6. This morning, Alexei called me and told me that Maria Zakharova had informed him that she would not agree to a debate with a moderator. And a minute later, she posted that I had refused to debate her and, moreover, that “Navalny, you’re a complete coward.” 7. To say I was surprised would be an understatement. Once again, I stated plainly to everyone that I was ready to debate in any format and without preconditions. 8–9. But Maria Zakharova would not budge. In a very funny interview with Echo of Moscow (a Russian radio station), she refused to debate me on the grounds that I had refused to debate her. 🙈 10. As is easy to understand from everything that happened, Maria Zakharova’s morning, one minute before she wrote the post “Navalny, you’re a complete coward,” looked exactly like this.
