A complete and unequivocal victory in court today. Representatives of Putin’s government were thoroughly defeated. The court even recognized Article 18 (politically motivated persecution), something it has not done in Russian cases for about 15 years. This ruling is important not only for me, but for hundreds of citizens across vast Russia who, despite having done nothing wrong, are taken to the police and arrested for any reason at all. With this decision, the ECHR (European Court of Human Rights) has changed its practice, and proving a political motive will now be easier. Lawyers should really read the ruling: it is a powerful document. The judges voted in our favor by 14 to 3. Hooray. Congratulations to everyone who believes in justice and a fair trial.
