Hello, this is Navalny. It’s becoming harder and harder for me to judge what is really happening out there, beyond the walls of my cell. ⠀ Right now, all I have is a television with no remote, and every button on it (including the “volume” button!!!) is locked so that it shows only the Kultura channel. One hour a day. But the lawyer who came to see me told me a little about what happened yesterday, and—I’ll say this sincerely—two feelings are raging inside me: pride and hope. ⠀ Pride that I am part of something so large and so beautiful. One of you, of the honest people who do not stay silent when faced with injustice and lawlessness. Who are not afraid, despite all the malice and hatred now pouring out of the Kremlin. Because they understand that to be afraid now means losing, selling off, and squandering your own future. ⠀ Yesterday you marched with me, and today I will lie on my bunk and imagine myself marching with you and for you. ⠀ And hope—its source is perfectly clear. This is Russia’s salvation. You. Those who came out. Those who did not come out, but supported us. And even those who did not support us publicly, but sympathize. ⠀ Our country is sliding into darkness. In the prosperous 21st century, the people of resource-rich Russia are growing poorer with every passing year. We are not developing—we are falling behind and degrading year after year. For one reason only: the senile, backward, foolish (but vicious and cunning) old men in the Kremlin trade away the chance of a decent, prosperous life for Russia’s citizens every day in exchange for their palaces and vineyards. ⠀ And yet—people are taking to the streets. Which means they know and understand everything. They will not surrender their future, or the future of their children, or the future of their country. ⠀ Yes, for some time it will be hard and bleak. But those who are dragging Russia backward are historically doomed. There are more of us anyway. ⠀ Russia will be happy.
