I learned about the searches and detentions of Dmitry Gudkov and Andrei Pivovarov from a lawyer. Not a word about it on television. It’s obvious why: the Kremlin still hasn’t come up with even a remotely plausible explanation for these arrests. And what they do have—even the average TV viewer can see—is the outright fabrication of criminal cases. A fake and a crime. My support goes to Dima, Andrei, and their families. These are honest people, and that is precisely why they are being persecuted. And let me remind everyone once again: this disgusting, lying government is also deeply cowardly. It will go on picking people off one or two at a time in order to intimidate everyone else. And yet it is exactly that “everyone” that it fears most. But as long as that strong “everyone” remains frightened itself and stays silent, playing by the rules imposed on it, the authorities will never stop. They will keep devouring and devouring—people, families, the nation’s wealth, our future. They feed on our fear. Don’t feed them.
