There’s only a month left, and everything is clear. Most importantly, it’s clear what needs to be done. The whole country is divided into 225 districts. Putin’s United Russia — the party of crooks and thieves — wants to grab every single one of them, all 100%. To snatch all the districts in the State Duma elections on September 19, they declared half the country extremist. They barred strong candidates from running. And now they’re even removing not-so-strong ones from the race — they’re afraid of our “Smart Voting.” And it really works. For the first time in the last 30 years, you and I have a working, tested mechanism for defeating the ruling party in district elections (the kind where you put a checkmark next to a candidate’s name). We tried “Smart Voting” in Moscow, St. Petersburg, and cities across Siberia. It definitely works. People hate United Russia. Its candidates get no more than 25–35%, while those opposed to it get a combined 65–75%. But without “Smart Voting,” that 75% gets split among several opposition candidates. United Russia comes in first and wins. With “Smart Voting,” we choose the strongest non–United Russia candidate and give our votes to them. And we win. Yes, right now we’re not talking about sending lots of good candidates to the Duma — almost all of them have been barred from the election. But at least we can put into Duma seats the people we actually voted for, instead of the ones appointed in the Kremlin. It’s safe. And, excuse me, it’s not exactly going to overwork or exhaust you.
