The site brought together court documents, a timeline of the proceedings, explanations of the charges, and materials from court hearings. It allowed people to follow the case through primary sources and the defense’s position, rather than through state media coverage. The fabricated case concerned timber supply transactions involving the state-owned company Kirovles during the period when Navalny served as an adviser to the governor of Kirov Region. The Kirovles case became one of the earliest examples of criminal prosecution being used to hinder Navalny’s political career. The conviction was later repeatedly used as the formal basis for barring him from elections.
