Why are truck drivers protesting?
Drivers are protesting across the country, but the federal media remain silent...
What is really happening?
In April 2011, the State Duma passed a federal law under which truck drivers (with vehicles weighing more than 12 tons) must pay a new tax.
The new tax must be calculated and paid through the "Platon" system. To pay, you must either purchase a special device or obtain a "route map" before each trip.
The cost of travel on federal roads is currently 1.53 rubles per 1 km of travel. From March 1, 2016, the rate will be 3.06 rubles per 1 km of travel. The cost is calculated without VAT, which means that for payers it will be 1.8 and 3.61 rubles respectively.
Why are they protesting then?
- "Triple" taxation. - Inability to pay for the trip in advance. - Inability to change the route. - The system works with failures, causing supply disruptions. - Lack of documents confirming payment of the fee. - Taxes and fees should be collected by the tax inspectorate or extra-budgetary funds, not an LLC. - At the official request of Rostec, Putin awarded the contract for developing "Platon" to the private company "RT-Invest Transport Systems," 50% of which belongs to Igor Rotenberg, the son of his school friend. - Federal media are silent about the protests; Channel One blocks on social media everyone who writes requests to cover the problem.
Igor Rotenberg
Igor Arkadyevich Rotenberg is the son of Arkady Rotenberg.
Brothers Arkady and Boris Rotenberg graduated from the Institute of Physical Education. They created nothing, invented nothing new. They are friends of Vladimir Putin, and when he came to power, they became intermediaries in the sale of pipes to Gazprom. That is how they earned their first billions.
Now the Rotenberg brothers win all the most lucrative state tenders and make money from budget funds allocated for the construction of roads, bridges, the metro, etc.

Lawyers from the Moscow branch of the "Party of Progress" (the human rights movement "Progressive Law") are ready to provide remote legal assistance to truck drivers taking part in protest actions throughout Russia, as well as with an оперативной group deployment in Moscow and the Moscow Region.
