I'm back. I didn't liberate Constantinople, but I did get a great tan. Because of Turkish internet fascism, I wasn't on LiveJournal. My apologies to everyone who wrote to me and didn't get a reply. The post with my phone number was kindly put up by yellow_reporter In the internet café at my hotel, LiveJournal was blocked. Right at the very end, it turned out that what had really been blocked was my own brain: I was typing "livejournal" into the browser using the Turkish keyboard layout. It's exactly the same as the Latin one, with one exception: instead of "i," it types some local "yagshimash." And this yagshimash is visually almost indistinguishable from an i. But the browser understands that it's not an i, it's a yagshimash, and so it wouldn't let me into LiveJournal. So I have no idea about anything interesting that was going on here while I was away (as I understand it, mostly the usual obsessing over Estonia). There's only one conclusion: it's time to switch the Turks to Cyrillic.
