I’m sitting here with red eyes. Like some crazed rabbit. Today, for the first time in my life, I put in contact lenses. This is what real fascism and genocide look like. It’s just unbearable — touching your eye. Putting them in, taking them out, and putting them back in again took me an hour and a half. Several times I came close to just strangling the female ophthalmologist. She says to me: you’re tapping your foot so nervously, like you’re at the dentist. I WOULD RATHER GO TO THE DENTIST THIRTY TIMES. The worst part is taking them out. When I was taking the left one out, the lens disappeared somewhere. I tell her: the lens is gone. She says: nonsense, of course it’s there. Then she looks: and really, it’s gone. She got scared herself, sat me down in the chair, and started shining some infernal device into my eye. Turns out the lens had slipped up under the upper eyelid. She picks up tweezers: I’ll take it out with tweezers now. The feelings I experienced when a sharp pair of tweezers came toward my eye cannot be described. In the end, I managed to take it out myself. In three hours I have to take them out again. I have no idea what to do. I’m going to shake my head as hard as I can until they fly out on their own.
