I admit that I have a fairly biased attitude toward Kovalyov, largely because of his "Chechen remarks," like "the federal troops are treating Chechen villages the way the fascists treated Khatyn" (the Belarusian village destroyed by the Nazis). There are, without any doubt, episodes in his biography that inspire a certain respect for him (if you can call a ten-year prison term an episode). But these days, personally, he reminds me more of Grandpa Simpson. Grandpa Simpson falls asleep at the most interesting part of his own story. After Kovalyov joined YABLOKO, they would bring him to Bureau meetings, where he would look around at everyone and vote too, even though he was not actually a member of the Bureau. No one had the nerve to tell him that he had no right to vote. I think his vote was even counted. I feel about his inclusion in the top three the same way I feel about the Union of Right Forces (SPS) wanting to put Sychyov in their top three. The only difference is that one side is mocking a disabled man, while the other is mocking a very elderly man. But, I repeat, I am biased. I'm very curious: dear friends, what do you think about including Kovalyov in Yabloko's top three?
